Karen Mafundikwa

Karen Marks Mafundikwa directed/produced/wrote “The Price of Memory” (2014), a documentary feature film about the slavery reparations movement in Jamaica. It won the Impact Award at Caribbean Tales Film Festival 2015, was nominated for Best Long Documentary at Al Jazeera Documentary Festival 2015, and Best Film by a Woman of Color, African Diaspora Film Festival 2014. She previously produced/wrote documentary feature “Shungu: The Resilience of a People” (2009) following ordinary people in Zimbabwe during economic crisis and political stalemate. “Shungu” garnered international broadcasts, screened on three continents and premiered at international film festivals including BFI London Film Festival, IDFA, FESPACO, Thessaloniki and Reykjavik. It won the Ousmane Sembene Award at Zanzibar Film Festival 2010 and Best Documentary at Kenya International Film Festival 2010. She has a BA in Journalism from NYU, an MSc in International Development from Tulane University Law School and was a Documentary Film Fellow at IFP Documentary Lab.

TRANScribe is a unique 13 part travel documentary series that visually explores and celebrates Caribbean and Caribbean diaspora writers, through their connections to the magical, mystical and tragic places within the Region that are buried within each of their souls inspiring their distinct storytelling.
